FAIS Ombud

The Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Ombud (FAIS Ombud) is an independent office that handles complaints about financial advisers, brokers, and intermediaries regulated under the FAIS Act in South Africa. If you received advice from a financial adviser — including a loan broker — that was negligent, dishonest, or caused you financial loss, you can complain to the FAIS Ombud at no cost. The Ombud can order the adviser to compensate you for proven losses. The FAIS Ombud is separate from the Credit Ombud (which covers credit providers directly) and the Banking Ombudsman (which covers banks).

Usage Examples

"If a loan broker advised you to take a product unsuitable for your situation and you suffered financial loss as a result, the FAIS Ombud can investigate."
