7. Request Procedure

To request access to records held by RandCash, you must:

  1. Complete the prescribed PAIA request form (available from the SAHRC or the Department of Justice).
  2. Submit the completed form to our Information Officer at [email protected].
  3. Pay the prescribed request fee (if applicable).
  4. Provide sufficient detail to identify the records you are requesting.
  5. Indicate the form in which you wish to receive the records.

We will respond to your request within 30 days, as required by PAIA. This period may be extended by a further 30 days if the request requires a search through a large number of records or consultation with another body.

8. Grounds for Refusal of Access

Access to records may be refused on the following grounds, as set out in PAIA:

  • Protection of personal information of a third party (Section 63)
  • Protection of commercial information of a third party (Section 64)
  • Protection of the safety of individuals (Section 66)
  • Records privileged from production in legal proceedings (Section 67)
  • Commercial information of the private body (Section 68)
  • Research information (Section 69)

9. Processing of Personal Information (POPIA)

In terms of Section 18 of POPIA, we process personal information for the purpose of providing financial services, conducting credit assessments, managing loan accounts, and complying with legal obligations.

The fees for PAIA requests are prescribed by regulation and include:

  • A request fee (currently R50)
  • An access fee for reproduction of records (fees vary depending on the format requested)
