- Book value for the year
- What that model of that year is worth in average condition at average mileage. Where we hold no price for your exact year, we depreciate from the nearest one we do — and say so by lowering the confidence rather than pretending.
- Mileage against expectation
- Measured against what your model is expected to cover in a year, not a flat national average — a bakkie doing 25 000 km a year is normal, a city hatch doing it is not. The adjustment is capped both ways: past a point, the odometer stops being the main fact about a car.
- Condition
- Your own honest grade, from full service history down to needs-work.
- What it really fetches
- The gap between an advertised price and what a car actually sells for. We apply it rather than quoting you a forecourt number you will never be offered.

How accurate is this car value estimator?
We aim to be within 20% of the real market value. The estimate comes from our own South African reference prices for the make, model and year, adjusted for mileage and condition, and is honest about how confident it is — a model we hold exact prices for scores higher than one we have to extrapolate.
Where do your car prices come from?
Our own reference tables, built from South African market data and corrected against public sources rather than copied from a single trade guide. We publish the adjustments we apply — mileage, condition and the discount between a market price and what a car realistically fetches — instead of hiding them behind one number.
Is this a trade-in price or a retail price?
Closer to trade. The figure is what a car in that condition realistically fetches, not the asking price on a dealer forecourt. A private sale usually beats it; a quick trade-in usually falls below it.
Do I have to give my email address?
No. You see the range on this page whether or not you leave an address. The email carries the exact figure and a breakdown of how we got there, and we send it because you asked for it.
Can I borrow money against my car?
Yes — a logbook loan uses your car as security while you keep driving it. How much you can borrow depends on what the car is worth, which is exactly what this page estimates.
