Garnishee Order
A court order (called an Emoluments Attachment Order in modern SA law) that tells your employer to deduct money from your salary to pay a debt. It's what happens when you've missed payments, a creditor got a judgment, and you still haven't paid. Eish.
Usage Examples
"Bongani ignored letters from Capitec about a defaulted R30,000 loan. Capitec took him to court, won judgment, and got a garnishee order. Every month his Joburg employer (a big retailer) deducted R1,500 from his salary. He couldn't stop it."
"Andile was gatvol with his creditors, so he ignored everything. A mashonisha got an order and his retail employer in Sandton began deducting R800 monthly from his pay. After 12 months the debt was settled, but the humiliation stuck with him."
"Thandi's store card debt went to collections. The collection agency won a judgment and applied for a garnishee order. Her employer in Durban received notice they had to deduct R600 monthly. She couldn't hide this — payroll was told, HR knew, colleagues heard."
