Negative Credit Listing
A negative credit listing is any adverse record on your credit report held by one of South Africa’s credit bureaus (TransUnion, Experian, Compuscan, XDS). This includes missed or late payments, defaults, judgements, debt review status, and administration orders. Negative listings lower your credit score and can result in loan applications being declined. Most negative listings remain on your credit report for between one and five years depending on the type, even after the underlying debt has been settled. You can dispute incorrect listings directly with the bureau. Settled debts should be updated to reflect payment — if a paid account still shows as outstanding, request a paid-up letter from the lender and submit it to the bureau.
Usage Examples
"A single missed payment listing can remain on your credit report for up to two years, even if you pay the arrears the following month."
